D. A. Wells series
"Knowledge tells you what's hidden. Wisdom tells you whether to seek it."
DRAGON RESTORATION

There’s a darkness rising in Bleasoria.
The White Queen has dispatched her best soldiers to handle it and to protect her people from whatever the menace is. The magic of her sword eludes her, and one night it disappears completely. The next day, so do the troops she sent to the west.
In Isloya, a boy finds a sword and develops powers almost overnight. His only instructor is the ghost of a druid, as all the druids were killed generations ago. He’s tasked with bringing the old ways back to the world before it is too late.
In Ayeon, a young woman discovers a sword that carries life and death with it. She now has the power to free her fellow slaves and to reclaim their lives.
In the south, a young man discovers a sword that gives him the ability to read minds. This can only help him survive on the streets of the city of Migou where he will rise to power, ruling over the street rats and all of the city’s underground.
On the Widow’s Coast, in the White Queen’s lands, a young woman discovers a rare, multi-colored dragon egg. And she hatches it, something only the royals are supposed to be able to do.
Separate, all of these things are small. Intriguing, but small.
Together, however, they are the harbinger of great change and imminent peril.
But they also carry a hefty price. And only when they come together, along with other swords, will they be able to rise together and stop the darkness from spreading and overtaking their entire world.

PROLOGUE - The Father's Legacy
Alexandria, Egypt - Three Years Earlier
The beam of James Calloway's flashlight caught the faint discoloration on the tunnel wall. After twenty-five years excavating sites from Turkey to Peru, he recognized human intervention.
Ancient. Hidden for centuries.
"There's something here," he whispered.
The words echoed off limestone walls that had witnessed empires rise and fall. James felt the familiar thrill of discovery racing through his veins, the same feeling that had driven him from graduate school in Texas to dig sites across three continents. But this was different. This felt final.
The tunnel beneath Alexandria was supposedly mapped and empty. But James followed a different map, one pieced together from fragments found across three countries during two years of increasingly dangerous research. Each piece had cost him. Academic colleagues who'd stopped returning his calls. Funding sources that mysteriously dried up. Colleagues who'd warned him he was asking too many questions.
The first warning had come in Istanbul, delivered by a nervous graduate student who'd approached him after his lecture. "Professor Calloway, some people don't want you to find what you're looking for." The second warning had arrived in his hotel room in Rome. A simple note slipped under his door: "Stop digging." The third warning had been more direct: his laptop stolen from his locked office, nothing else touched.

Equal parts thriller and spiritual awakening, it felt like National Treasure met The Da Vinci Code—but with heart and purpose.
I'm definitely picking up the next book in the series!
